Privacy
In short
AsOf is a public record of dated facts. You can read it, and call its API and MCP server, without an account. We keep a visit log that holds no IP address, and Google Analytics runs only if you accept cookies. We do not sell or share personal information, and we show no ads.
The visit log
Every request to the site, the REST API, the MCP server and the markdown pages is logged so we can count traffic, spot abuse and see which crawlers and AI assistants read the record. Each entry holds:
- the path requested and, for an MCP call, the tool name and its main argument (an entity name or a search query)
- the time, the HTTP method and, when the request was refused by the rate limit, the status
- the browser or client's user agent, and the crawler name when it is a known bot
- the referring website's host name (not the full address)
- the country, as reported by our host from the connection
- a visitor code: a one-way hash of the IP address, user agent and date. It changes every day and cannot be turned back into an address. It lets us count unique visitors per day and nothing more.
The IP address itself is not stored. Entries are deleted after 13 months.
The same log records a page view when a page's script runs in your browser. That uses no cookie and no identifier.
Rate limiting
To keep the API and MCP server free for everyone, each IP address gets a fixed number of requests per minute. The counter is held for at most one minute and then discarded.
Google Analytics and cookies
With your consent we use Google Analytics 4, loaded through Google Tag Manager, to understand how people use the site. It sets first-party cookies (_ga and _ga_*) and sends Google information about your visit, such as pages viewed, approximate location and device type. Google's use of that data is described at https://policies.google.com/privacy. Advertising features are off.
Nothing from Google loads until you choose Accept on the banner. If you choose Decline, or say nothing, no Google script runs and no Google cookie is set. You can change your answer at any time with Cookie settings at the foot of every page; declining after accepting deletes the Google Analytics cookies.
Vercel, our host, may measure page performance and anonymous page views without cookies (Vercel Web Analytics and Speed Insights).
We keep your cookie choice, and your light or dark theme, in your browser's local storage. They never leave your device.
Corrections you send
When you submit a correction, we store what you write, the claim and source you name and, if you choose to give it, your email address. A person reviews it. What you write, the link you send and your email are not published: the review queue at /review says only that a correction is open for a claim. We use the email only to follow up on that correction. Ask and we will delete it: write to [email protected].
People in the record
The record names people only in public roles: an executive, founder, director or board member of an organization, with the dates and sources for that role. It holds no birth date, address, nationality, education, family or contact details. If you are named and something is wrong, or you want a role reviewed, use the correction form on the About page or write to [email protected].
Who processes data for us
- Vercel (hosting and content delivery, United States)
- Supabase (the database, United States)
- Upstash (the rate-limit counter, when enabled)
- Google (Analytics, only with your consent)
Data may be processed in the United States.
Your choices and rights
Depending on where you live (for example under the GDPR in the EU and UK, or California law), you may ask what we hold about you, ask us to correct or delete it, or object to its use. Because the visit log holds no IP address or name, we usually cannot link an entry to you. For a correction you sent, or anything else, write to [email protected]. You may also complain to your local data protection authority.
We do not sell or share personal information as California law defines those terms.
Children
The site is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their information.
